How Has Support for Gun Control Changed?

It seems like every few months in the U.S. we learn of yet another mass shooting. We hear about the more shocking events: students, worshipers. However, we often don’t hear about the mass shootings in underserved urban areas. Of the 10 deadliest shootings in the U.S., five have taken place in the past three years.

The majority of ordinary people are saying ‘Enough’. Many politicians are saying ‘Enough’. However, not all politicians are representing their constituents regarding the desire for gun law reform.

Since 1992, VoteSmart has been researching and tracking political positions of candidates and politicians. They’ve just published a graph depicting the shift in support for gun control in response to the more frequent mass shootings. Not surprisingly, Democrats have become most willing to implement gun reform while Republican views haven’t changed in over eight years. It’s well past time for Washington to make gun law changes, and it’s up to all of us to vote for people who will fight for change.
